New Song offers a variety of opportunities for learning and fellowship.
Held on many Sunday mornings from 11:30 to 12:30, Spirit School enlightens and challenges us. Led by both New Songers and guest speakers, past topics have included Black history, Lakota spirituality, water quality issues in Iowa, an introduction to meditation, poverty relief efforts in Haiti, and a multigenerational session on ways to visualize God through drawing, painting, and writing. See upcoming Spirit School offerings.
New Song Choir
The choir, directed by Linda Stewart Kroon, is open to all who want to come to rehearsals on Wednesdays to work on the ministry of supporting worship music. Some of the choir members have sung for many years; some got their start in chorals singing with New Song’s choir. We laugh, have a good time, and sing a lot. Choir rehearsal is at 7:15 on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month, September through May. Specific dates are listed on the New Song calendar. Linda can be contacted at email@example.com.
New Song Meditation Group
Most Monday evenings from 7 to 8 p.m., this New Song group meets for meditation in a variety of styles. Meetings are held at the houses of members. Contact Lori Erickson at firstname.lastname@example.org to find out the location.
Education for Ministry
Education for Ministry (EfM) is a four-year program that explores scripture, church history, and theology. It helps members discern their calling to ministry and gives them practice in thinking from a theological perspective. EFM materials are developed and administered by Sewanee: The University of the South. Participants commit to one year at a time and meet weekly during the academic year.
New Song serves as the home for a network of Healing Touch practitioners who volunteer in the larger community. The group meets monthly at New Song for fellowship and continuing education. For information about Healing Touch training, contact Lisa Bormann at email@example.com.
